Uzbek President Plans Visiting Brussels for EU Partnership
The Uzbek presidential office announced that Mirziyoyev will be in the Belgian capital on October 23-24, responding to an invitation extended by European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
During the visit, discussions will concentrate on broadening and intensifying the relationship between Tashkent and Brussels, especially in light of implementing the high-level accords established at the first-ever EU-Central Asia Summit earlier this year.
This summit was held on April 4 in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.
“The focus will be on promoting specific projects and programs for practical cooperation in trade, economic, investment, financial, innovation, energy, transport, communications, science, education, and other priority areas,” the statement emphasized.
The signing of an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) between Uzbekistan and the European Union is expected to take place during this visit.
Earlier this week, Uzbekistan and the EU “reaffirmed their strong commitment to deepening political and economic cooperation” at the 18th EU-Uzbekistan Cooperation Council held in Luxembourg.
